Jenna von Oy is an American actress and a country music singer, most famous for her portrayal of Six LeMeure on the sitcom “Blossom”.
Jenna was born on May 2nd, 1977 in Danbury, Connecticut, to Gloria and Frank von Oy. She is of German and Dutch descent, with both of her grandparents emigrating to the USA from Germany. Jenna attended Newtown High School during her teenage years, successfully balancing her growing acting career with education.
Von Oy’s first ever acting gig came when she was six years old, landing an appearance in a Jell-O Pudding Pop commercial with Bill Cosby. She continued acting in regional stage productions and commercials before making her television debut in 1986 when she made a guest appearance in an episode of “ABC Weekend Special”. Jenna starred in a TV movie called “The Kingdom Chums: Little David’s Adventure” the same year before further making several guest roles on various TV shows such as “Tales from the Darkside”, “Kate & Allie” and “Monsters”. Additionally, von Oy also appeared in the feature film “Born on the Fourth of July” from 1989 opposite Tom Cruise.
In 1990, Jenna co-starred in the short-lived sitcom “Lenny”. She followed it immediately with “Blossom,” portraying the title character’s fast-talking best friend, Six LeMeure. “Blossom” turned out to be a major success for von Oy, earning her the Best Young Actress Co-starring in a Television Series at the Young Artist Awards in 1993. The show also became the first of the two long-running hit shows that she has starred in, both having exceeded 100 episodes, and having entered into syndication. The second was “The Parkers,” which first showed in 1999 and finished filming in 2004. It was the number one television show in African-American households in which von Oy played the quirky and sarcastic Stevie Van Lowe.
In between the two successful show, von Oy attended film school at the University of Southern California. There, she was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority for two years before dropping out to focus on her acting career. She provided the voice of Stacey in “A Goofy Movie” (1995) and of Trinket St. Blaire in the animated series “Pepper Ann” (1998) for 10 episodes. Other notable appearances include guest-starring on “Cold Case”, “Family Guy” and voicing Gracie in the direct-to-DVD feature “Dr. Dolittle 3” in 2006.
Besides her acting, Von Oy is also an accomplished country singer. So far, she released two albums. Her debut album, “Breathing Room,” was released in September of 2007, while she released her second album in 2009, titled “Coffee & Men: An EP For Childish Adults”.
In October 2010, von Oy married her boyfriend of 2 years, computer data consultant Brad Bratcher, following a 9-month-long engagement. The happy couple has two daughters; Gray (born 2012) and Marlowe (born 2014).
Von Oy’s birth name is Jennifer Jean von Oy, which she legally changed to Jenna Jean von Oy. Her height is just 5′ (1.52 m), she speaks French fluently and has a recurring case of airplane-phobia, which sometimes makes traveling hard for Jenna. She has an estimated net worth of $2 million.
Her other passions include photography, which has appeared in several publications, and writing, blogging for People.com and maintaining her own blog, The Cradle Chronicles (cradlechonicles.com). She wrote a book called “Situation Momedy: A First-Time Mom’s Guide To Laughing Your Way Through Pregnancy & Year One”, which brings readers a lighthearted and comedic look at pregnancy and the first year of motherhood.
What’s she up to now
Jenna von Oy currently resides in Nashville with her husband, two daughters, and five dogs. Her latest serious acting gig was a role in a 2012 drama “Lukewarm”, before appearing in an episode of “Celebrity Wife Swap” in 2014. Jenna focused on raising her family and doing a little bit of writing here and there, including music. The sequel to her first book, “Situation Momedy: A Very Special Episode in Toddlerdom”, is due to be released by Medallion Press in February 2017.
Furthermore, it seems we’ll have the opportunity to see von Oy on screen this year in a family comedy titled “Cecil”, set in 1996 about a boy who can’t pronounce his name due to a lisp. Jenna commands a leading female role in the Kickstarter-funded movie. It remains to be seen if this is a sign of somewhat of a comeback to the acting world for Jenna.
